Join a certified guide for this scenic, eclectic, and fun Kilimanjaro and safari package. Over the course of 10 days, climb the highest peak in Africa via the Marangu route before visiting three different national parks and reserves during the safari portion of the trip.
Among the best ways to explore the diverse landscapes and see the iconic animals of East Africa is by heading out on a Kilimanjaro and safari package.
Over the course of 10 days, we will hike to the top of the highest summit in Africa (5,895 meters/19,341 feet) and visit some of Tanzania’s iconic national parks and nature reserves afterward.
The fun begins after we pick you up from Kilimanjaro airport in Moshi and transfer to the hotel. The following day, we will make our way to Kilimanjaro National Park and begin hiking.
Over the course of the next three days, we will hike through dense tropical rainforests, across high-altitude moorlands, and through an arid and rugged “lunar” desert, all en route to the summit.
Starting from a hut in this surreal rocky desert, we will hike up to Uhuru Peak, the highest on the Kilimanjaro summit, passing Africa’s only glacier en route.
From the base of the summit plateau, we will enjoy a phenomenal sunrise over the plains of East Africa before continuing on to the true summit and congratulating ourselves for climbing one of the world’s Seven Summits.
After coming back down from Kilimanjaro, the fun continues as we transfer to the next portion of our trip: the wildlife safari.
Over the course of the following three days, we will explore Tarangire National Park, Ngorongoro Crater – the eighth natural wonder of the world – and finish off the trip with a visit to Lake Manyara National Park.
Each of these locations will give us the chance to see just about all of East Africa’s iconic wildlife, including the incredibly rare black rhino in Ngorongoro crater and the tree climbing lion in Lake Manyara National Park.
After arriving at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), you will meet the guide and transfer to the hotel in Moshi
First thing in the morning, we will transfer to Marangu gate in the national park and begin trekking through the thick tropical rainforest until we reach Mandara hut.
The second day of trekking begins as the first one ended. We will continue hiking through the forest until we ascend out of it and cross into high moorlands, enjoying beautiful views of Kilimanjaro until we reach the hut.
We will spend the day crossing the rugged and arid landscape at the foot of the mountain. After an early dinner, we will go to bed in preparation for summit day.
Starting at midnight, we will begin our ascent to the summit, hiking up steep scree. From the top, we will enjoy the sunrise over Africa from the continent’s highest point, before descending back down to Horombo hut.
We will spend the last day of trekking heading mostly downhill back to Marangu gate. From here, we will transfer to the hotel.
After getting up early in the morning, we will transfer to Tarangire National Park and spend the day wildlife watching. At the end of the day, we will transfer to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
We will descend into the deep Ngorongoro crater and spend the day wildlife watching again. The crater is densely populated and home to just about every species of animal native to East Africa. At the end of the day, we will transfer to your lodge.
We will spend the day heading out for a game drive through the national park, where we will get the tree-climbing lion as well as many other animals. In the evening, we will transfer back to Arusha for dinner and overnight.
After breakfast, we will take you from the hotel to the airport and say goodbye.
